Austin was ranked the third best city to move to in the United States, according to a RelocateAmerica.com report. Those listed were nominated by RelocateAmerica.com users and then selected by the site's editorial team. The company analyzed reviews, interviewed residents and looked at economic, environmental, education, crime, employment and housing data. (March 2010)
Time Magazine, says that Austin will lead the way in job growth in the next few years. "Austin provides a useful lesson in how to stay on top of the innovation game. Start with an educated population (43% of Austin residents have a bachelor's degree or higher), mix in a robust venture-capital scene (one of the best outside Silicon Valley), add a supportive community of peers (groups like Bootstrap Austin band together hundreds of entrepreneurs) and wrap all that up with a state government unafraid to throw money at companies that need a little help getting off the ground." Out of 100 most popular retirement towns for 2010, Austin ranks number 5. Austin was also listed as the fifth-best "earth-friendly" location behind Portland, Ore. (No. 1); Boston, Mass. (No. 2); Madison, Wis. (No. 3); and Boulder, Colo. (No. 4). The cultural and other activities associated with the University of Texas is a major draw. Our cosmopolitan and high-tech, quirky soul is another. Plus, we have a relatively low cost of living (Robert Powell, Retirement Weekly; Austin Business Journal).
Austin is expected to lead the nation in the economic recovery according to a report on CNN February 22, 2010.
