Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve
Hamilton Pool Preserve is a historic swimming hole which was designated a preserve by the Travis County Commissioner's Court in 1990. Located 3/4 mile upstream from its confluence with the Pedernales River, Hamilton Creek spills out over limestone outcroppings to create a 50 foot waterfall as it plunges into the head of a steep box canyon. The waterfall never completely dries up, but in dry times it does slow to a trickle. However, the pool's water level stays pretty constant, even during periods of drought.
Shopping and Entertainment
Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits, the long-running, much-praised live music program on public television, captures the spirit of the Austin music scene like no other. And while it once primarily hosted country performers, today's lineup includes something from virtually every genre. Even so, there's just too much good music for the regular television season, and that's where the festival comes in. From local singer-songwriters to internationally known artists, the festival features about 130 performances on eight stages, along with tons of food, drink, children's activities, and arts and crafts vendors. Past performers have included everyone from Blues Traveler, Lyle Lovett, and Buddy Guy to The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Roseanne Cash, and Oasis. To get to the festival site, take the free shuttle from Waterloo Park (403 E 15th St).
Downtown Austin
Casual, cosmopolitan, eclectic, five-star, techie, hippie, historic, chic, intellectual, fashionable, artistic, and weird… The adjectives used to describe Downtown Austin are as numerous and diverse as the people who live, work and visit here.
Lake Austin Spa
#1 Destination Spa as voted by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler!
South by Southwest Festival
This March event is held at the Convention Center and in dozens of Austin's nightclubs. Some say it is the biggest event in the American music industry. Critics, producers, and over 600 bands appear. The event is similar to the Grammys, with most types of music represented among the bands. There is also a film festival that goes on as part of South by Southwest. If you're in Austin at this time of year, this is a great way to see yesterday's legends and tomorrow's stars in intimate venues
Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival
This event, held during late March or early April, brings together chefs, vintners, cheese makers, herb and vegetable growers, and gourmands from all over the state. In addition to a wide range of seminars, classes, and demonstrations (held at various venues throughout the city) visitors love Sunday Fair – a collection of food and wine sampling booths arrayed like a miniature city along the shore of Town Lake
